The double doors swung open as Gabrielle Farris strolled outdoors. She walked to the edge of a balcony on the second story of the Blue Hieghts shopping mall. Bags from Banana Republic were dropped casually to the floor as she studied people below her. Some were taking a smoke and others walking to the entrance. Her lips parted into a small sigh or laugh. She didn't know which. Her thoughts bubbled over recent events. A couple of her friends were giggling over a boy they had just seen who they said looked "uber cute". Gabby didn't really care for him. He had good looks and all, but nothing about him sparked her interests. And besides, why does she need to flirt with boys anyway? All they want from her is sex.
She leaned against the cemented wall that held her from falling over and took some time to breathe. She just needed a bit of fresh air to help soothe things over. Her companions were probably wondering where she had hurried to. Should she head back now? No, she thought. Give it some more time. Anyway, basking in the sun feels great. She never got tans anyway but it helped relax her body a bit. She didn't have anxiety or anything, but her worries constantly probed her mind. Being outdoors always gave Gabby something she desired. Freedom. Being able to walk outside and yell, 'Hello world!' and not even care what anyone said. She was convinced moving to Montana had been one of the best decisions her parents ever made.

Jay was relaxing outside just enjoying the day after getting a few things in the mall. The mall to him was not that exciting, but the fresh air was nice. In the bigger city that they had been in the air was not fresh a lot of the time. So, to him it was a good reason to just relax on a bench. Being stuck in this town was not what he exactly wanted, but it wasn't all bad. He was somewhat sure that it would grow on him at one point or another. The things he had gotten were from a clothing store and a video game store. This meant he had something to do at home and some new clothes that he could wear.
He stayed fairly quiet in the comforting sun. Just thinking about all the things that had happened since he had come there. His sister might wonder where he was a bit, but he had sent a text to her earlier. Jay got out the video game and started to look at it. He sighed a bit because it reminding him of the only best friend, his guy buddy that he always used to play video games with. Now he was quiet around everyone, and it was hard to get used to all these new things. It did not help that he was already naturally a quiet person. He looked over seeing a girl and then looked away, fearing that he would have to stutter through a conversation. Even if he didn't even like a girl he had a hard time talking to them. Which made him feel pretty lame when he actually did like someone.

The breeze was not a breeze anymore, but a harsh wind on her face and she decided to step out of its current. Just as she turned her back to the beautiful view, she spotted a familiar face. A guy with short brown hair and matching eyes was looking down at what looked like a dvd or video game. She had seen him somewhere before but couldn't mark the exact location or time. He looked bothered by something and Gabby felt obliged to help him. She sauntered over to the bench where he was sitting and made a soft sound at the back of her throat. "Anyone sitting here...?" She asked, a warm smile on her face. The sun was still high and bright in the sky but they were under the shade in protection of it.
She tried once again to think where she had witnessed him before. And then it came to her. School! She knew she had seen him walking down the corridors many times before, but she never got the chance to talk to him. Her friends usually were talking to her, even if her attention was half caught in their conversation and the other half on his demeanor. But her focus now was on him and she had some time to talk before her cell phone might ring.

'Gah.' Jay thought as the girl got right by the bench. "N-No." He said and moved so there was room for her. Now he felt even more uncomfortable than when he saw the girl earlier. Jay didn't like her or anything, he just got a weird feeling. There was no possible way to be able to tell what it meant so he would just try to talk to the girl. "H-how are you?" He asked as he felt the wind in his short hair, which in turn cooled off the top of his head. He tried to calm himself as he looked into the girl's eyes. They were pretty looking he had to admit. He remembered her as the girl people seemed to talk about a lot at school. Though, she seemed to have one eye on him a lot at school. He wondered why.
Though, he knew that it would be rude to ask, and he didn't want to scare away one of the few times he could talk to a girl besides with his sister. Jay put away the video game, and put his attention into the conversation that he had started up with the girl. Jay thought that this could help him with his shyness. He knew that a girl would talk to him at one point, and he hoped the results would become someone to be friends with. As long as the girl didn't think he was strange, he would be ok.

Gabby sat down at the bench, keeping her legs close together under her long skirt billowing in the wind. She could sense his nervousness and vowed in her head to make him more relaxed. She started to hum but stopped. Perhaps if she started casual talk with him he might feel more calm around her? It was worth a try. "I've seen you before at school. My name is Gabrielle, but you can call me Gabby if you'd like. I actually insist that you call me that since Gabrielle sounds so formal." She gave a light laugh and her eyes shone.
Turning her head to gaze at the view, which seemed distant from the bench propped against the concrete wall, she watched a flock of birds fly by. How graceful... She thought. But her attention returned quickly to the boy sitting next to her as she awaited his answer.
